With the opening of the Salone del Mobile in Rho, the official kick-off was given to the Milan Design Week 2024, an event that not only showcased the latest innovations in the furniture sector but also marked a strong increase in the presence of the world of fashion in interior design.
This year, the link between fashion and design is more evident than ever. Long-established luxury brands at the Show, such as Hermès, Ralph Lauren, and Loewe, unveiled their latest collections in various locations around the city, but there was no shortage of exciting new attendees.
The New Frontiers of Design according to the Greats of Fashion
Thom Browne, known for his tailored suits, presented his first home linen collection in collaboration with Frette. This collection was displayed theatrically inside a historic building in Parco Sempione, fusing the art of textiles with his unmistakable narrative style.
ETRO: Immersion in Fabrics and Colors
One of the most significant revelations of this edition was the presentation of ETRO Home Interiors and ETRO Home Collection, under the creative guidance of Marco De Vincenzo. The collections reflect a modern reinterpretation of ETRO's heritage, mixing poetry and contemporaneity.
In the Via Spartaco showroom, ETRO invited visitors to explore three settings rich in geometric patterns and immersive fabrics that vary from green to blue to earthy colours, enriched with floral motifs such as the Pluma jacquard.
Ralph Lauren: Elegance and Automotive Style
During Design Week, Ralph Lauren also made its mark with the new home collection for autumn 2024. Inspired by Ralph Lauren's long-standing passion for classic cars, the "Modern Driver" collection combines elegance and functionality, using materials such as burl, mahogany wood, polished stainless steel and carbon fibre. Grooved leather details and mahogany shutters pay homage to automotive design, confirming the inextricable link between aesthetics and function.
De Sarno debuted his first furniture collection for Gucci on Saturday, featuring pieces in an eye-catching glossy burgundy, dubbed "Anchore red." This collection draws inspiration from the giants of Italian design, combining luxury and history in each piece.
Milan Design Week 2024 demonstrated how interior design can be profoundly influenced and enriched by fashion aesthetics. This year, more than ever, the collections presented showed a creative dialogue between shapes, materials and stories, confirming Milan as one of the world capitals of design and fashion.
